Exos Fit - Native App

Exos Fit

Exos started as a coaching company for athletes and has now grown into services that support corporate wellness benefits.

Fit was developed for members that have access to on-demand content at home and in-person fitness content in an Exos Gym.

Fit members have access to:

  • A personal coach and coaching sessions

  • On-demand fitness content and programs

  • Practices to help members stay on top of goals

  • Personal and Team challenges

The Problem

Coaching is a huge part of the Exos brand and business, so a lot of research is done with the coaching team to determine what their members are looking for.

One problem that arose between coaches and members is that members wanted a way to track their activity outside of the app in Fit, so that they could easily share this with their coaches. The only way to keep track at this time was to type it out to their coach, but even if they did this there was no way to keep track on the coaches end, so data was lost.

The second problem was that members that were trying to complete challenges could only use content in the app that would count towards the challenge. Not all members restricted their activity to in-app, so they were not technically completing challenges.

Research and Audit

Next as a team, we explored what our members were missing from Fit by conducting surveys and interviews. Many users also had wearable devices that they wanted to incorporate into their Fit activity. We also completed a competitive audit of other wellness apps to compare how they handled wearables and adding outside activity.

Final Solutions

For V1 of Activity, we added a banner as well as a quick add button on the For You page to give users quick access when adding manual activity done outside of the app. We also added in the ability to connect to wearables and Apple Health/Google Fit, so once a member was connected, their activity counted on their devices would automatically be pulled into their Fit data. The connection flow was added into onboarding so that new members would all have access, and multiple touch points were added into the app to all existing members could connect easily.

Reactions

With the ability to use activities completed outside of the Fit app added, we saw a big uptick in completion of challenges, which were a big hit with company benefit programs already.

While the feature itself was positively received, some features still needed some work. Activity history was difficult to find for some members and coaches, and we knew there were some navigation changes we wanted to make.

Next Steps

Knowing that activity was popular, we next began to look at the hierarchy of the app and where certain features were located. We eventually added a new section on the For You page for activity adding and history in the meantime, and did some more research on where features should be located.
